Types of Common Pests

-Bed Bugs

Bed bugs are back and infestations in Westchester County and New York City have become a problem for homeowners. These nocturnal, parasitic pests feed on the blood of humans and other warm-blooded animals. While bed bugs are not known to transmit disease they can cause skin irritations and other allergic reactions, have psychological effects on their victims and have economic implications to the businesses that they effect.

-Rodents

These small mammals including mice, squirrels and rats can rapidly go from a small infestation to a very large one due to their high reproductive rates. They are capable of spreading disease through their droppings and their mere presence can have serious implications for a homeowner ranging from health implications to frustration in their living environment, damage to the home and more.

-Cockroaches

Quite comfortable in man-made structures these nocturnal insects are known to carry and spread disease. Their presence is often associated with filth. They often exist in very large populations within a structure and can be very difficult to treat for without understanding their biology, altering the environment and having professional tools at your disposal.

-Ants

Some ants are more of a nuisance than a health concern. However, certain ant species, like the carpenter ant, can also cause damage to a home with their tendency to tunnel out dampened and damaged wood to create their nests. Ants typically live in complex social organizations and a pest professional is your best means for long-term control of this pest.

-Stinging Insects

Bees, wasps and hornets can be a nuisance or a life-threatening pest should someone have an allergy. Bees can nest in the most inconvenient places making entryways or food areas unwelcoming to guests. Allow our experts to control your stinging insect problems in a safe fashion and one that offers long-term control.

-Stored Product Pests

Kitchens can easily become infested with stored product pests. These pests can be brought home within a grocery item and then turn into a major infestation in the home. Recognizing that the kitchen and food storage areas are sensitive environments, K.E.B. Pest Control can help you to eliminate the nuisance of stored product pests and even monitor to catch future infestations.

Our services implement the concepts of Integrated Pest Management which is an approach that considers all reasonable methods to avoid pest problems. It is a process that balances the use of cultural, biological, and chemical procedures to eradicate or reduce pests to tolerable levels. IPM allows for a significant reduction in the use of pesticides.

Are there steps I can take on my own to eliminate and control unwanted pests in my home or business?
Yes. There are steps that everyone can take to eliminate and control pests in their homes and businesses.

• Food Clean Up Is a Must! Food and food residues will attract pests and rodents so be sure to store food properly and clean-up messes. Leaving dishes in the sink overnight can eventually lead to unwanted pests.

• Eliminate running, dripping, or standing water in the home. Bugs and rodents need water just like we do. Making sure they do not have a source of water can help prevent them from setting up camp.

• Insulate and barrier-proof your home to create a barrier against external invasion. Simple do-it-yourself steps such as filling foundation and exterior wall cracks and crevices can help to keep pests from ever entering your home.

• Schedule regular maintenance check-ups to ensure that pest problems do not go unchecked. All it takes is a once yearly home or business evaluation to ensure that your home or business is protected against pest infestation and the resulting damage and hazards associated with pest problems. Prevention is the number one way to keep your home, business, and family healthy and protected.

Following these simple four steps can help eliminate and control pests in your home. In some cases, however, even strict adherence to these rules is not enough. When that is the case, scheduling a visit with a Pest Control Specialist can solve your pest problems. Check out of Pest Prevention Tips for additional information!
